A silt curtain is a permeable or impervious structure that floats or is suspended in the water column to control the migration of waterborne sediment, providing the environment and time for suspended sediment to settle back onto the seabed within a controlled distance from the pollution source.  It is commonly used in coastal construction to limit water turbidity in the work area.
